The Pengelly USA Roadtrip

17 October-24 October 2014: Clear Lake, California

Russell here: After dropping Mitchy off in Lodi to spend time with Daniel, we headed up to Clear Lake near Nice which was about a 2 hour drive north of Lodi.

Driving through the Napa area and past all the amazing wine farms was great. This is what I was looking forward to!

The Worldmark Wine Country timeshare resort was great – the usual three bedroomed, two bathroomed units with all the usual facilities and amenities. It was also right on Clear Lake which was perfect.

The town itself had remnants of the property fallout from a couple of years back with beautiful houses on the lake sitting next to houses that were deserted and in need of major TLC. We found a great grocery store about 3 miles up the road which catered to our food and wine needs!

We (Liz!) spent a good part of each day with Cameron doing school work. In the late afternoons we took drives to the local towns while Liz did some retail therapy in the old style shops.

We found a couple of great restaurants and pubs in the area and ended up going back to each a couple of times! Cameron had ‘the best wings ever’ (how many times have we heard that now!?) so decided not to fix what was not broke!

We also enjoyed a couple of barbeques on the patio at the unit – we have missed having easy access to braaiing at some of the places we have been staying at so took advantage of the good weather and facilities when we could.

Our favourite spot for sundowners (and lunch) was right next to the timeshare resort on the lake. The food and ambiance were amazing, although the building itself had taken a bit of a knock!

All in all a great place to spend a chilled week while Mitch was away. Looking forward to having him back with us next week!

It was really strange without Mitch that week. His strength and wit were sorely missed. Cameron really missed his big brother too. So glad we are now back together again. :-)
